Mulled Pomegranate Juice

Pomegranate juice can be a striking stand-in for red wine, even all by itself. But add some heat and spices and it will be a dead ringer for the real mulled thing. If you can’t find mulling spices, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and grated orange zest should do the trick.

Or try this classic Mulled Apple Cider (without the whiskey, of course).

Cranberry Coconut-Water Faux-jito

Take a handful of cranberries and muddle them with a tablespoon of mint leaves and 1-2 tablespoons of sugar, depending on how sweet you like your drink (you can also throw the whole thing in the food processor if you prefer). To this mixture, add the juice of one lime, then fill up the rest of your glass with a combo of coconut water and sparkling water. Rim your glass with sugar and garnish with mint for an extra-fancy touch.

Hot Buttered Un-Rum

Mix one tablespoon each of softened butter and brown sugar in a few tablespoons of boiling water. Add one teaspoon of rum extract. Pour into a glass garnished with a cinnamon stick and a lemon peel studded with cloves. Fill the rest of the glass with boiling water. Top with whipped cream!

Virgin Sangria

Sangria is a great way to get some fruit and fiber along with your beverage. Choose the juice of your choice as a base. Pomegranate or concord grape juices are great for red sangria; for a white version, white grape or apple will work. Fill with whatever fruit you like: apples, pears, berries, citrus… letting the mix chill in the fridge for a while will allow the flavors to mingle. You can also add a splash of brandy extract to give it a more authentic taste.

Just take out the wine and triple sec before sipping this pomegranate peach sangria.

Molasses Mule

The Moscow mule is a classic cocktail made with vodka and ginger ale. This mocktail version subs in molasses for a rich-tasting drink that’s also high in iron. Dilute one tablespoon of molasses (not blackstrap) in hot water. Add the juice of one lime. Allow to cool. Fill the glass with ginger ale and garnish with mint.
